Marching Bands, Beauty Queens & Tracey Snelling

This past Saturday was the 18th Annual Union County Veterans 4th of July parade in downtown Lewisburg. I’m ashamed to admit this but even though I moved here four years ago, this was my first year attending. Man have I missed out! The parade was great; I especially loved the old bomber planes flying overhead.

The Tracey Snelling exhibition, Another Day in Paradise, was the perfect backdrop for the parade. (It was also a wonderfully comfortable 68 degrees inside the gallery. Outside, just a few degrees more!) It doesn’t get more “americana” than this… unless, of course, I had a slice of apple pie. But I’m a museum registrar and I’ve taken an oath to not condone pie eating within 8 feet of a work of art so, sigh, no pie for me.

I’ll let the photos speak for themselves!

Patrons of the Lewisburg Hotel weren’t the only hotel guests to enjoy the parade from the windows of their room.

A musical mash-up of “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” via the parade float and “Summer of ’69” via a sculpture inside the gallery.

I hope there weren’t too many sleeping guests at the Hotel Roosevelt when this marching band passed by!

On a personal note, my four month old also loved the parade & the exhibition!

Ahhhh! Babyzilla attacks The Hotel Roosevelt! (Disclaimer: No sculptures were harmed in the creation of this photograph.)
