Transition is… experiments in community curating

September 1 – September 28, 2012

This exhibition is a program of the Connections Gallery: Experiments in Community Curating.

As we return to Bucknell each academic year, there are certainly some constants that we have grown accustomed to. We can anticipate late nights at Bertrand, classes that start too early, and long brunches in the cafeteria with friends. While we can count on all of these things, there are also obvious changes which differentiate each year: some of us are leaving home and starting a new chapter of our lives at Bucknell, some are starting a class with a new professor, while some are moving off campus for the first time. Whether these transitions are planned or unexpected, welcomed or unwelcome, we would like to address the concept of transition and how we react to it.

To celebrate and reflect on what it means to begin a new year at Bucknell, we have selected works from The Samek Gallery’s permanent collection which speak to this theme and help us to better understand our own reactions to transition in our lives. This exhibition is meant to present a thought-provoking and relevant display of who we are as a club. We welcome you to reflect on your own experiences and thoughts about the topic of transition, for it is something that everyone encounters.

The Gallery Engagement Team will host an opening reception for Transition Is… on the evening of September 4th from 5:00-7:00pm in the Samek Art Gallery. Food and beverage will be served. This event is free and open to the public.
