Farhad Ostovani: Works on Paper and Prints
October 1- October 30, 2012
This exhibition is a program of the Connections Gallery: Experiments in Community Curating.
This exhibit of works by Farhad Ostovani accompanies the Fall 2012 publication of a new English translation of Yves Bonnefoy’s book of poems Début et fin de la neige by Bucknell University Press / Rowman & Littlefield. The translation by Emily Grosholz includes 8 watercolors by Mr. Ostovani, of wintry horizons and trees, which indirectly echo or refract the poems that evoke the wintry New England landscape Yves Bonnefoy encountered when he taught at Williams College, as well as the luminous woods of Haute Provence.
The exhibition in the Samek Art Gallery includes two series of lithographs and one series of watercolors that evoke other horizons, other trees, other leaves, as well as individual works. The gravity and beauty of his work shows why Yves Bonnefoy, widely acclaimed as an art critic and historian as well as a poet, has chosen Mr. Ostovani to be his co-creator of over a dozen books and catalogues during the past twenty years.
Farhad Ostovani was born in Lahijan, Northern Iran. He lives and works in Paris. His work has been exhibited at the Jenisch Museum (Switzerland), the Museum at the Rembrandt House (Netherlands), the Morat Institute for Arts and Art Research (Germany) and the Chateau de Tours (France) as well as several galleries in Europe and the United States.
