G.E.T. Member, Doug Bogan on what “Transition is…”

The interesting thing about curating an exhibition as a student organization, is that the product has so many different perspectives. For our exhibition in the Connections Gallery (on view through the end of the month), we decided to address this idea of what transition is. We heard from G.E.T. member and engineer, Doug Bogan:

Selected Work: Luis Azaceta, City on Fire
City on Fire conveys a sense of chaos and turmoil, a feeling of disaster and transition, through its subject matter.  Azaceta’s use of oil pastel gives the work a sort of raw, unrefined look, emphasizing the dramatic nature of the burning city.  The flames themselves are rich in color and dominate the background of the work, suggesting the looming presence of flames that are soon to make their way to the foreground of the city.  Pieces of the city’s buildings, represented by small brush strokes of various colors amidst the flames, rise up into the sky, as the dark, decrepit cityscape becomes an era gone by.  It’s time for the city to transition into its new form, as the flames and bright pink sky envelope the old city in advance of the rebuild.”

We now  invite you to offer your own response…what is transition to you?
