On November 15, 2012, artists Kenneth Tin-Kin Hung, Sanh Tran, and Jessie Horning are exhibiting a humorous, Norman Rockwell inspired installation in the Conversations Gallery. Our viewer audience should be familiar with Kenneth Tin-Kin Hung, whose exhibition The Travelogue of Dr. Brain Damages is currently up at our Downtown Gallery. However, how many of you are acquainted with the works of Jessie Horning?
The images above are from Horning’s website and were captured at her most recent exhibition, As a Child: Buffet, which opened at the Soft Machine Gallery in Allentown, PA. During the 2012 installation, visitors were encouraged to taste an assortment of dishes that were placed on a constructed tablescape among art made to look like edible food. Inspired by the memory of her grandmother’s elaborately hosted family dinners, Horning’s objective for the installation was to immerse viewers into the reality of an aging dementia patient (her grandmother) by skewing the senses of sight, taste, and smell.
