Artist Bill Domonkos’ work combines computer animation, sill photography, and manipulated archive film footage. The artist will screen a selection of films and discuss his approach and craft. Immediately followed by a post-screening reception at The Downtown Art Gallery (416 Market Street) directly across from the Campus Theatre.
Domonkos is currently exhibiting work in the exhibition, Makeover on view April 10- June 30th at the Downtown Art Gallery, Bucknell University. The exhibition is a makeover of found landscape imagery and archival film footage. Domonkos is joined by fellow California-based-artist Elliot Anderson, who constructs light-boxes of layered imagery depicting traditional American landscapes. Anderson will give an artist talk at the Downtown Art Gallery, Bucknell University on Thursday, April 18 at 6:00 PM.
The Campus Theatre serves as the home for Film/Media Studies classes and screenings. It is also an important bridge between the university and the greater Lewisburg community for promoting the art of cinema. The Campus Theatre is used for a weekly, Tuesday evening screening series. Bucknell University’s Film/Media Studies collaborates with a rotating group of university departments and centers to feature important film, video, and other media events in the series. Admission is $2.
The theatre, designed by noted Philadelphia architect David Supowitz, opened in 1941 as part of the Steifel Family chain of theatres. It has continuously operated as a single screen movie theatre and remains one of only a handful of surviving art deco cinemas in the world. Facilities include 35mm projection, as well as state-of-the-art 2K digital projection with Dolby, surround sound.
Today the theatre is operated by an independent non-profit organization that partners with Bucknell to coordinate classroom screenings, film series, community events, and film festivals.
