About:
Meet My Melanin is an evolving movement that highlights and honors Melanated individuals by allowing them space to practice reclaiming their full selves through individual sacred photo-story sessions. This movement challenges the narrative that history would have us believe about people of color—that their lives, stories, truths, and histories do not matter.

Curatorial Text:
MEET MY MELANIN
Melanin is magic.
It’s unique and irreplaceable. It’s wise, spiritual, and powerful. It existed before us, will continue to exist long after we are gone, and deserves to be honored!
For centuries, this precious gift has been demonized and weaponized. People of color have been systematically stripped of their right to own their power, as they are forced into a narrative that doesn’t accurately reflect who they are or where they come from—and it’s time for that to stop.
Meet My Melanin is an evolving movement that highlights and honors Melanated individuals by allowing them space to practice reclaiming their full selves through individual sacred photo-story sessions. This movement challenges the narrative that history would have us believe about people of color—that our lives, stories, truths, and histories do not matter, and is a space for us to practice using our voices so that we can better take up our rightful space in the world around us.
The movement also aims to grow into a community that empowers people of color in multi-dimensional ways as we continue on our journey together. If you’re a person of color, consider joining in – this is the place for you!
