First came the paint, now some demolition! Last week our new Graduate Assistant in Museum Education, Laura Hildebrandt, posted a sneek peek into the facelift we are giving the Samek this summer. The gray paint wasn’t dry before it was off to focus on the next phase of our summer improvements!
The Samek Art Gallery is learning lab; a public space designed to enrich the cultural discourses art can generate with an audience. It’s an open invitation to explore the ways in which art can coalesce with the interdisciplinary studies and interests of Bucknell’s youth. But, why stop there?
The draw of a liberal arts education is its exposure to uncommon connections that link one field to another. We saw this last spring when President Bravman collaborated with artist Mako Fujimura on the intersection between Engineering and the Arts at the Creativity: Beyond the Box, public forum series. These connections illustrate the interdependency of what life at Bucknell is really all about.
Since art is the medium we know best, this fall the Samek is proud to unveil a new space that aims to enrich these alliances… to unearth the interconnectivity of multiple disciplines and topics outside of the Bucknell community. The Connections Gallery (located on the third floor of the ELC from the uphill entrance) is a portal that literally connects the ELC as the central hub of campus, to the Samek Art Gallery.
A hallway turned exhibition space; The Connections Gallery is designed as a go-between, a space where students and staff can show their intersections with art and life. As you travel into our main gallery, allow these mini exhibits to reveal the breadth that only art can cover.
Contractors just broke ground on this exciting new project- here’s a glimpse of the new Connections Gallery!
