Curatorial Text:

OVERWHELMED

What restricts your ability to feel free; what blocks your mind with intense emotions, with stress; crashes and floods through your body; disorients, inundates, engulfs any sense of normalcy; causes you to choke on your words? Regardless of the emotions personally associated with the feelings of being overwhelmed, they can be difficult to navigate and understand. In the midst of being overwhelmed, it can be difficult to see how distorted things have become.

Overwhelmed is a student-curated exhibition designed by those who understand; what are overwhelmed themselves. This exhibition features selected works from the Samek’s permanent collection, unrestricted by time period, geographic origin, or medium. Displayed in an unconventional Salon-style hang, the exhibition channels being overwhelmed through both the works and their composition in the space.
