On Wednesday, February 13th the Samek Art Gallery at Bucknell University will host an interdisciplinary panel discussion in conjunction with the Jim Campbell exhibition, “At the Threshold”. The panel will feature Samek Director and Chief Curator, Richard Rinehart in addition to Bucknell faculty Maurice Aburdene of Electrical Engineering and Maria Balcells of Philosophy.
Earlier this week I met with the panelists to discuss their thoughts on the exhibition. Our dialogue unearthed some of the connections that link the fields of new media art, electrical engineering, and philosophy. Maria Balcells introduced Mind Lab, a “virtual science center” that explores the unconscious functions of the brain and how these mental constructions shape our perception, interpretation and sense (among others) of the world around us.
